The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine wants the Museum Fund of Ukraine portal to be easy to use for everyone, including people with visual, hearing, motor and cognitive impairments.
Standards
The portal is built and tested to level AA of the W3C WCAG 2.2 guidelines, the European standard EN 301 549 and DSTU EN 301 549:2022, which Ukrainian law requires for government websites.
What we have done
- Every page works with a keyboard; there is a “Skip to content” link and a visible focus, and dialogs keep and return the focus.
- Text contrast is at least 4.5:1 in the light and dark themes; controls are at least 24×24 pixels.
- Pages have a proper structure of headings and landmarks, a document language, and labels for fields and images.
- Content reflows without horizontal scrolling at 320 pixels wide (400% zoom) and with increased text spacing.
- The home page slider can be paused; with the system “reduce motion” setting, animations are off.
- The accessibility menu lets you enlarge text and spacing, raise contrast, and turn off images and animation.
How we test
An automated axe-core audit of every page type in the light and dark themes on desktop and mobile, plus manual checks with the keyboard, zoom and screen readers.
Known limitations
Descriptions and images of museum objects come from the museums through the Museum Fund Register; some of them do not have full descriptions yet. Virtual tours from third-party services (Google, Sketchfab) may not be fully accessible.
Report a barrier
