Description

A dish from the group of glazed open-form ceramics of south-eastern Crimea. It has a wide outward-leaning shoulder separated from the body by a ribbed projection. Form type 7.1. Decorated with engraving in the sgraffito technique under polychrome green and yellow glaze, done with a two-pronged cutter, corresponding to division III.3 and section III.D, which defines wares with internal polychrome sgraffito decoration tinted with yellow and green mineral paints. Decorated with abstract geometric ornament. The central field of the inside shows a lattice formed by two interlacing bands, with whirling rosettes and paired wavy lines alternately inscribed in the spaces. One pair of bands is highlighted with green glaze, the other with yellow. The shoulder, marked off by two concentric lines, is decorated with intermittent incised "brackets" whose middles are highlighted in dark yellow. The outside is partly covered with green glaze in its upper part. The typology of I. B. Teslenko is used. Dated to the second half of the 14th to early 15th century.
