Description

A fragment of a dish from the group of glazed ceramics of the Byzantine circle, with the upper part missing; a more detailed typology is impossible without the rim. Red clay. The inside is covered with a yellow monochrome glaze and decorated with a composition in the sgraffito technique. In a round medallion separated by two incised lines is a fragment of a "Seljuk chain" framed by two bands. The background and the centre of the medallion are filled with oblique hatching. The surviving part of the outside is undecorated. The fragment is dated to the second quarter of the 14th century. Scientific description by Yaroslav Chentsov.
