Ліпний глечик

Description

A grey-clay hand-built jug with a biconical body, a straight, slightly outward-leaning rim with an uneven edge and a flat bottom. Recorded as found in burial no. 11 of the Alanic-Germanic Suuk-Su cemetery and handed to the Odesa Archaeological Museum in 1901, although the published materials of the cemetery do not list such an item in burial no. 11, excavated in 1903. The jug does, however, have very close parallels in the inventory of other burials of the cemetery, such as nos. 46 and 193, where an identical jug was found together with a red-slip dish dated to the second half of the 6th century AD, which dates the whole burial. By analogy, this piece can be dated to the same time. Scientific description by Yaroslav Chentsov.
