Description

A miniature kumgan with a flat bottom and a broken-off spout set at a steep angle on the shoulder opposite the handle. The body is squat and spherical; the narrow neck consists of two concave parts with a thickening (a relief roll) between them, to which the upper end of the handle is attached. The rim is massive and overhanging, with a bevelled upper edge. An incised line runs around the shoulder of the body. The clay is light brick-red; the upper half of the vessel is covered with greenish-brown glaze. Dated to the late 15th to mid-16th century. Type k 1.1 after Hayes (Hayes 1992, p. 293), fairly widespread. Scientific description by Yaroslav Chentsov.
