Glazed bowl

Description

A bowl on a ring foot with a low shoulder marked on the outside by a small rib; the edge is slightly turned outwards and rounded. Form type 4.1.C. Painted radially using lustre and cobalt. The cherry-coloured design covers almost the whole surface. White, cobalt and lustre lines crossing at the centre of the bottom divide the field into six sectors: three show a stylised triangular fern leaf, the other three white trefoils on a lustre ground. Along the outer edge of the bowl are bands of the same cherry colour. It belongs to the group of Spanish ceramics known as "Pula" or "Loza valenciana dorada del grupo Pula", which comes from the Valencia region. Dated to the second half of the 14th to early 15th century. First published by E. R. von Stern (Stern 1906, pl. IX: 91). Scientific description by Yaroslav Chentsov.
