Полив'яна чашка

Description

A cup from the group of glazed open-form ceramics of south-eastern Crimea. It has a hemispherical body with a slightly outward-turned rim, no shoulder, and a tall ring foot. Form type 10.4B. Decorated with engraving in the sgraffito technique under a monochrome glaze; the engraving was done with wide and fine cutters, which corresponds to division II.2. The outside of the cup is covered with green glaze and decorated with thick incised horizontal lines and a single row of festoons. The ornamental scheme of the inner surface is built around a composition with a six-petalled whirling rosette at its centre, formed by interlacing bands with round medallions. Below it is another rosette with triangular ends enclosing small spirals, shaped like a six-pointed star. Covered with yellow glaze. The typology of I. B. Teslenko is used. Dated to the second half of the 14th century. Published by E. R. von Stern (Stern 1906, pl. VI: 46). Scientific description by Yaroslav Chentsov.
