Chernivetskyi Regional Local History Museum

The Chernivtsi Regional Museum of Local History is one of the most important museums of Bukovyna, holding the largest collection of materials and documents on the history, ethnography and culture of Northern Bukovyna and the Khotyn area. It is located in the centre of Chernivtsi on Olha Kobylianska Street. Its history goes back to the 19th century, when local researchers and scholars began collecting the region's archaeological, natural and historical objects. The modern museum continues these traditions and is an important research and cultural centre of the region. Today the collection numbers more than 120,000 items. The exhibition occupies more than 30 halls and introduces visitors to the nature, ancient history and cultural heritage of Bukovyna, with archaeological finds, ethnographic collections, early printed books, icons, 18th–19th-century weapons and works by well-known Bukovynian artists. The museum makes it possible to trace the centuries-long history of the region and better understand its cultural diversity.
