Manevytskyi Local History Museum

The Manevychi Museum of Local History, with its single-exhibit department "The Manevychi Boat – a monoxylon of 1223–1256", is owned by the Manevychi Settlement Council; its objects belong to the State Museum Fund of Ukraine. It is a cultural, educational and research centre and the main keeper of the material and spiritual culture connected with the history of the Manevychi area and Volyn Polissia. The Manevychi area attracts everyone with the unique beauty of its enchanting nature and its remarkable history. Today the Manevychi Museum of Local History is almost the only repository of the area's material and spiritual heritage. It opened on 5 November 1967 as a volunteer-run museum by decision of the Manevychi District Council and in October 1968 received the title of "folk museum". From 16 March 1979 to 24 April 1992 it was a department of the Volyn Museum of Local History, and since 1992 it has operated as an independent state (municipal) museum with the status of a legal entity. The museum's collections now number more than thirteen thousand original objects of the material and spiritual culture of Volyn Polissia: objects and documents, archaeological and natural history material, works of fine art and folk crafts. The pride of the museum is the "Manevychi Boat", a 13th-century monoxylon. The museum also keeps handwritten and written originals that may be included in the National Archival Fund; their total number reaches two thousand. The museum's main activities are researching, studying, preserving and promoting the historical heritage of the area and presenting the spiritual and material culture of the Manevychi area and Volyn Polissia through exhibitions, publications and public events.
