Vinnytskyi Regional Local History Museum

Vinnytskyi Regional Local History Museum

The Vinnytsia Regional Museum of Local History is one of the oldest and largest museums of Podillia. Its history began in 1918 with the decision to create a regional museum in the city. It was built on the collections of local institutions and private collectors, and since 1929 it has occupied the 17th-century historical and architectural complex "Mury". Over the decades it developed into a multidisciplinary museum with departments of nature, archaeology, history, ethnography and art. Today the museum is a major research, methodological, cultural and educational centre of the region. Its collection numbers about 100,000 objects, including archaeological finds, ethnographic materials, numismatic collections, weapons, minerals and unique gold jewellery of ancient times. The museum is active in exhibitions, expeditions and educational programmes and every year welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors, introducing them to the rich heritage of the Vinnytsia region and Podillia.
